Jawan’s pre-release event is a testimony to the love Chennai has for superstar Shah Rukh Khan. The deafening shouts, whistles, and screams emerged whenever SRK was on stage made many realise there was a huge fan following for the Bollywood Badshah in Tamil Nadu. When Shah Rukh Khan finally got on stage to deliver his thank you note, the crowd went berserk. The noise didn’t stop all through his long speech, in which he thanked Atlee, Vijay Sethupathi, and Anirudh Ravichander. There seems to be a special bond between Anirudh and SRK. Even while he entered the event, SRK hugged and kissed the Tamil composer, the most bankable rockstar in Kollywood.
Speaking at the event, Shah Rukh Khan said Anirudh Ravichander is like his son. “He (Anirudh) is telling me that I should pick up his calls. I pray that he graduates well in the Hindi film industry and Insah Allah he becomes so busy that he doesn’t pick up my calls. I have known him for a long time…Why this Kolaveri di (sings)… Since that time, I have been wanting to meet him. So, when Atlee said Ani would compose one song in the Tamil version for the film, I said ‘No, he has to make all the songs.’ I am very grateful and thank Anirudh’s parents.”
Later in the speech, Shah Rukh Khan revealed why he keeps calling everyone ‘beta and baby’. While thanking the film’s lyricist Vivike, SRK said, “I see Vivek who has written the lyrics thank you for standing with all other processes of the film. I am forgetful with names. I keep calling everyone baby and beta (child). Sunil beta. I thank him for being part of the film and doing a different role.”
Jawan, directed by Atlee and starring Nayanthara, Deepika Padukone, Vijay Sethupathi, and Sunil Grover, will be released on September 7.
