Director duo Abbas-Mustan recently shared an interesting incident involving Shah Rukh Khan. They revealed that after winning the first award of his career for his role in Baazigar, Shah Rukh showed up at their doorstep at 4:30 am. Shah Rukh, who made his debut in 1992, starred in Baazigar the following year. While Shah Rukh is known as the ‘king of romance,’ his role as an anti-hero in Baazigar was a game-changer for him, earning him many awards. The movie had swept the Filmfare awards that year, earning six nods including Best Actor, Best Film and Best Supporting Actress for Shilpa Shetty.
In an interview with Radio Nasha, Abbas-Mustan said that they attended the award function, but returned home soon. They said, “It was the month of Ramzan, so we went home soon. At around 4:30 a.m. someone rang the doorbell. We live in a joint family, me, Mastan and Hussain. My wife said that Shah Rukh Khan has come to our house.”
They added, “He had the trophy in his hand. He said, ‘I could not go home until I met you. This is the first award I have received in my life. I will only go home after I hug you and take your blessings. I have still not met Gauri’. There were a lot of cars waiting outside and since it was Ramzan, a lot of people got up early and hence there was a big gathering outside. He took our blessings and went. At that time we realized that he deserved the award.”
Shah Rukh had won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. Baazigar also starred Shilpa Shetty, Kajol, Raakhee, Dalip Tahil, Siddharth Ray, and Johnny Lever in pivotal roles. Shilpa won an award for best newcomer and Anu Malik won an award for music. Shah Rukh was recently seen in the action extravaganza Pathaan, which emerged as the biggest hit of the year. Attlee-directed Jawan will again see SRK in an action avatar and will release on September 7. He is also starring in Dunki, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, which is slated to release later this year.
