American talk show host David Letterman was taken aback by the sea of fans waiting to catch a glimpse of Shah Rukh Khan during his visit to India for an interview on his show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman. However, Shah Rukh’s fan following extends beyond India’s borders. In a recent interaction, actor Alyy Khan reminisced about the time thousands of fans from across Europe gathered outside SRK’s hotel in Berlin on his birthday while he was shooting a film there. Alyy praised the star’s humility and recounted how Shah Rukh spent an hour with those fans.
In an interaction with DawnNews, Alyy said, “I was once shooting a film with Shah Rukh Khan in Berlin and it was his birthday. We stayed in the same hotel where Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino stayed a few days ago. They had shot a film in Berlin. So, most of the crew of our films was the same and when they saw the crowd gathered to wish Shah Rukh on his birthday, they said they hadn’t seen such a crowd before, not even for Brad Pitt.”
He added, “People came from around Europe to meet him. Since we had locked 1 kilometer space for the film, they were standing behind the barricades with placards to wish him. Shah Rukh walked all the way to that line and spent a good hour with the fans, thanking them for coming all the way to wish him. His stardom is unprecedented.”
During the interview, Alyy Khan also shared his experience working alongside Hollywood star Angelina Jolie in the 2007 film A Mighty Heart, which also featured late actor Irrfan. Reflecting on an incident at a film party in Mumbai, Alyy recalled how an actor’s disrespectful behavior was defused by Irrfan’s calm demeanor.
He said, “We were filming for A Mighty Heart. Brad Pitt was producing the film and Angelina was playing the lead role. They organised a party at Mumbai’s Taj Hotel and I reached there with Irrfan, who was also a part of the film. During the party, I remember I went to handshake with an actor and he ignored me and turned away. I was like, ‘Who is this?’ But Irrfan said, ‘Rehne de (leave it).'”
Alyy also shared an anecdote about Angelina from the same party and how she would discuss simple everyday things with him. He said, “I then started talking with Angelina. She was expecting at the time and so was my wife. So, we started talking about kids stuff like milk formulas and nappies. We were talking about these regular everyday things and suddenly when somebody would come to click a picture with her, she would turn into this actor Angelina Jolie but after they leave, she again would turn into a mother. I was amazed to see her humility.”
