Veteran actor Rajeev Verma calls Salman Khan as a “bachcha“, who has managed to retain good manners despite being launched into superstardom three decades ago. Rajeev played Salman’s on-screen father in Sooraj Barjatya’s Maine Pyaar Kiya, which made the star a household name.

In the 1989 film, Rajeev Verma played Kishan Kumar Chaudhary, father of Salman Khan’s character Prem. During a chat with Vistaar News, the actor spoke about working with Salman, with whom he went on to share screen space in films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Nishchaiy.

“I worked with Salman in many films after that. It is not like we talk about our past work, but woh bachcha abhi bhi waisa he hai (he is still the same). Maybe it is a thing of people from Madhya Pradesh, who will always be respectful, He respects his elders and seniors a lot and whenever we meet, he greets the same way,” he added.

Maine Pyaar Kiya, which was the acting debut of Bhagyashree and was the breakout film of Salman, was also Rajeev Verma’s big screen debut after the Doordarshan TV series  Chunauti. When asked if he knew while working on Maine Pyaar Kiya that Sooraj Barjatya–also making his debut– would go a long way, the actor said he wasn’t that far sighted.

“I didn’t think about it that way, I just wanted to work. They had seen Chunauti and called me for the film. They felt I was a different kind of a father and then they tested me for Maine Pyaar Kiya. Half of my hair was white then, but they said this can’t be it, we want only some portions white! That’s how I bagged the film,” he added.

Rajeev also went on to star in another Sooraj-Salman film, Hum Saath Saath Hain, and featured in other movies like Biwi No 1, Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega and Kachche Dhaage.
