Actor Varun Badola is often known to speak his mind. And he did so once again during an exclusive interview with SCREEN. The actor who is soon going to be seen on Sony SAB’s show Itti Si Khushi revealed he still hasn’t watched his latest film, Saiyaara. The film is directed by Mohit Suri and stars Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda in the lead roles. Varun Badola is seen playing Krish Kapoor’s (Ahaan Panday’s) father in the film. The actor recently commented on how the promotions team went overboard in creating a euphoria around the film on social media.

Talking about the film and the success it saw, Varun Badola said, “When we were working on the film, we hadn’t thought it would get so big; everyone must have thought that the film should at least earn what had gone behind producing it. But on the third day of the release, when the film blew up at the box office, we realized it had gone big. I still haven’t watched Saiyaara.”

Director Mohit Suri had recently said in a podcast that all the response that the film received was organic. However, contradicting that very claim, Varun Badola shared, “By the third or fourth day, the film was being talked about. I saw the euphoria on Instagram. Log jo chudiyaan tod rahe hai, chaatiyaan peet rahe hai (People were breaking their bangles, beating themselves). I think the promotions team went a little overboard there, where people are going to see the film, putting IV drips. Those people must have been told to give content in some way; thank god, people didn’t get their legs broken and went crawling to see the film.”

“It’s okay. We understand promoting the film, but it’s good only up to a certain level. However, the film cannot earn so much money just based on Instagram promotions. People have gone and seen the film, and they have loved it,” he added.

At the box office, Saiyaara has earned more than Rs 507 crores worldwide. The film has been pegged as the highest-grossing film in the history of Indian cinema. Saiyaara has also broken a few records and has emerged to be one of the highest-grossers of 2025. The film was released in theaters on 18th July 2025.
