After releasing the trailer of Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway a few weeks ago, Rani Mukerji, along with filmmaker Nikkhil Advani, sat down for a conversation about the film with Karan Johar in Mumbai on Friday.

Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway tells the story of an Indian mother, who fights with the government of Norway for the custody of her children. The film is inspired by the life of Sagarika Bhattacharya.

Today, Sagarika, who was also present at the event, shared how watching the film made her relive the fight to bring back her children. She also appreciated Rani Mukerji’s performance in the film.

She said, “I don’t know whether I’m a good mother or a bad mother but I’m a mother. Mothers can do anything for children. Rani ma’am, thank you, aapne toh mera dil jeet liya. I’m so happy. She has so beautifully portrayed the role of a mother, it feels real. What I have gone through is what is shown in the movie, there’s no difference.”

Sagarika Bhattacharya also opened up about the time the Norwegian child service personnel took her children away from her. She said, “Actually when they picked up the children (in the movie), and the way Rani ma’am reacted, it reminded me of myself and my fight. Rani ma’am has done full justice. What they have shown in the film is actually true and Rani ma’am is portraying the role very beautifully.”

“I got so emotional while watching the film. I didn’t know what to say. I felt like I was in the movie, that I was running in that scene,” Sagarika added.

Sagarika Bhattacharya also shared that she’ll be watching the film with her children — Avigyan and Aishwarya. She said, “I will show this movie to my children. I think we’ll cry while watching it.”

Rani Mukerji, meanwhile, said that Sagarika being able to connect with Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway is her biggest validation. She said, “It is quite a surprise for me. I don’t know how to react. I can just say that I’m happy and relieved with the way she has liked the film, because it is her story, her struggle. She’s given me full marks. It is a good beginning for me and the film. I feel and understand what she’s gone through.”
