Veteran actor Satish Shah, best known for his role in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, passed away in Mumbai on Saturday at the age of 74 following a kidney ailment. Satish had undergone a kidney transplant earlier this year. One of the actor’s closest friends, actor Sachin Pilgaonkar revealed that Satish chose to undergo the procedure so he could better care for his wife, Madhu, who is battling Alzheimer’s disease.
Talking about Satish and Madhu, Sachin told News18, “Satish and Madhu have always been extremely warm and lovable. We saw to it that we invited them to the premieres of all our films. They used to come for the screenings, the parties. They were always there in our list of guests and invitees. We couldn’t celebrate anything without them. And now, I’m wondering how we can celebrate events without him!”
Sachin Pilgaonkar also went on to share details of Satish Shah and Madhu’s health. He said, “Unfortunately, even Madhu isn’t well. She has Alzheimer’s. This year, Satish got his kidney transplanted. He wanted to extend his life so that he could take care of Madhu. He was on dialysis. Earlier, he underwent a bypass surgery, which was successful. Supriya went to visit Satish and Madhu just three days ago. I couldn’t go because I was shooting. He played some music, and Supriya and Madhu danced. Madhu recalled how she would dance cha-cha-cha.”
Sachin Pilgaonkar also revealed that his last chat with Satish Shah was just hours before the Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro actor breathed his last. He shared, “Satish and I would keep exchanging texts. In fact, I received a message from him at 12:56 pm today, which means that he was absolutely fine even at that time. That I’m in shock is an understatement. Industry ka loss toh hua hi aur woh baat alag hai, but it’s a very, very big personal loss to me.”
Satish Shah is celebrated for his performances in films such as Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, Hum Saath-Saath Hain, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kal Ho Naa Ho, and Main Hoon Na, among many others. On television, he was a part of iconic shows like Dekh Bhai Dekh and Sarabhai vs Sarabhai.
