Actor Rashmika Mandanna on Monday reacted strongly against a viral deepfake video where her face has been superimposed onto the body of another woman. She also demanded action against the makers of the video.
The original video featured British-Indian social media personality Zara Patel dressed in a black workout onesie inside an elevator. In the viral video, Zara’s face has been edited using artificial intelligence (AI) to resemble Rashmika.
Rashmika Mandanna took to her Instagram story and wrote, “I feel really hurt to share this and have to talk about the deepfake video of me being spread online. Something like this is honestly, extremely scary not only for me, but also for each one of us who today is vulnerable to so much harm because of how technology is being misused.”
Rashmika further said that the same incident could have traumatised her had she not been an actor and instead a schoolgirl.
She wrote, “Today, as a woman and as an actor, I am thankful for my family, friends and well wishers who are my protection and support system. But if this happened to me when I was in school or college, I genuinely can’t imagine how could I ever tackle this. We need to address this as a community and with urgency before more of us are affected by such identity theft.”
Earlier, Rashmika Mandanna’s Goodbye co-star Amitabh Bachchan had brought the video to everyone’s attention. He retweeted a post and wrote, “yes this is a strong case for legal.”
On the work front, Rashmika will soon be seen in the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial Animal alongside Ranbir Kapoor. She also has Rahul Ravindran’s The Girlfriend, Rainbow and Pushpa The Rule with Allu Arjun in her kitty.
