Ranbir Kapoor says he didn’t take his Animal character home else Alia Bhatt would have ‘beaten’ him: ‘Agar main ghar jaake…’

Ranbir Kapoor revealed that his daughter Raha was born while he was shooting for Animal and since his character was intense, it was important for him to switch off when he went back home.

The makers of Animal released the film’s trailer on Thursday. It shows Ranbir in an intense look as he plays the character of a young businessman who is on a mission to take revenge for an attack on his father. During the trailer launch event in Delhi, Ranbir revealed that his daughter Raha was born during the shoot of the film and since his character was demanding and intense, it was important for him to switch off when he went back home from the shoot.

He said, “The switching on and switching off part was very important because when I was starting Animal, I became a father. Raha was born. I was going on set, doing all these things and going home and seeing my daughter was surreal. When you’re inspired, aapka kaam aasani se ho jaata hai (When you’re inspired, you are able to do your work easily). We wrapped the film in almost 100 days.”

He added, “I am a detached person. I never take my character home. It’s not fair for my loved ones. Agar main ghar jaake aise act karta toh meri biwi mujhe maarti (If I acted like this at home, my wife would have beaten me up).”

Ranbir Kapoor and his actor-wife Alia Bhatt welcomed their first child, daughter Raha, in November 2022. The couple recently celebrated Raha’s first birthday in the presence of close friends and family members.

Speaking about his character in Animal, Ranbir said, “I wouldn’t use the word dark; it is the most complex character I have ever played. People usually see me in a different way- as a boy next door, a good boy, etc. I don’t know what he (director Sandeep Reddy Vanga) saw in me that he offered me this part but he has given so many layers to this character. He writes for everyone and gives them a character. He gives them a plethora of emotions and complexities. That is very exciting to portray.”

Animal also stars Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol and Rashmika Mandanna in pivotal roles. The film will release in theatres on December 21.
