The makers of the highly anticipated Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi-starrer Ramayana had till now kept details of the film tightly under wraps. However, Ranbir, who recently attended the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah as a notable speaker, shared a glimpse into the Nitesh Tiwari directorial while addressing the gathering. The actor expressed feeling lucky and “humbled” to have the opportunity to portray Lord Ram on the big screen. He also took a moment to praise the film’s producer, Namit Malhotra, for his passion and dedication to the project.
A video from the festival has gone viral, showcasing Ranbir Kapoor discussing the film. In the clip, the Barfi actor said, “I am currently working on Ramayana, which is the greatest story around. My childhood friend Namit Malhotra, somebody who is so passionately making this book, has got the best of all the artistes, all the creative people, the crew. It is directed by Nitesh Tiwari.”
Ranbir also revealed that he has completed filming for the first part of the two-part franchise. He shared, “It has two parts. I have finished the shooting of Part 1 and will shoot Part 2 soon. Just to be a part of that story, I am so humbled to essay Ram’s role. It’s a dream for me. It’s a film that has everything. It teaches what Indian culture is about — family dynamics and husband-wife dynamics.”
In November, producer Namit Malhotra had shared his vision for the project in a series of posts on his X (formerly Twitter) handle. He wrote,, “More than a decade ago, I embarked on a noble quest to bring this epic that has ruled billions of hearts for over 5000 years to the big screen.” “And today, I am thrilled to see it taking shape beautifully as our teams work tirelessly with only one purpose: to present the most authentic, sacred, and visually stunning adaptation of our history, our truth, and our culture – our “RAMAYANA”– for people across the world”, he wrote in another post. He added, “Join us as we fulfill our dream of bringing our greatest epic to life with pride and reverence… Part 1 in Diwali 2026 and Part 2 in Diwali 2027. From our entire Ramayana Family.”
The film boasts an impressive cast. Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi will play Ram and Sita, respectively, while Ravi Dubey recently confirmed his role as Lakshman. Meanwhile, Kannada superstar Yash will take on the role of Ravan. The first part of the film is set to release in 2026, with the second part following in 2027.
