Viineet Kumar Siingh, riding high on the success of Chhaava, recently shared how he was stunned to receive a call from Ranbir Kapoor, who praised his performance in Anurag Kashyap’s Ugly. He initially thought it might be a prank and even double-checked to be sure.

In an interaction with ABP Entertainment, the actor recalled, “I like Ranbir Kapoor’s work. When he watched Ugly in 2013, I got a call and the person said, ‘Hello Vineet, main Ranbir bol raha hun.’ I instantly thought that I don’t have any friends named Ranbir. I said, ‘Haan, kaun?’ Ugly hadn’t even released till then, but he watched it. I couldn’t believe it when he said that I am Ranbir Kapoor. In the last 13 years, nothing of that sorts had happened.”

He continued, “I thought that my friends are quite naughty and one of them was pulling a prank on me. I said again, ‘Kaun hai, bata de bhai?’ Then it got confirmed that it was him only. Then we talked for quite a while. He said so many good things about Ugly.”

Viineet Kumar Siingh appreciated the humility of actors who recognise and acknowledge the work of others. He said, “It is a beautiful thing when one artiste acknowledges the other. Main kya hi dedunga Ranbir Kapoor ko? Koi zaroorat nahi thi unhe mujhe yeh bataane ki, so this is a good gesture. Whenever I feel that he has done great work in any project, I always tell him. We have that mutual respect for each other.”

Viineet also addressed his previous statement about seeing Ranbir Kapoor’s wife and actor Alia Bhatt sitting in her father Mahesh Bhatt’s lap during the shoot of the 2007 film Dhokha, emphasising that he was struggling then and now. “So, when I was talking about all this earlier, I took Alia’s name as well. So, my intent was that when she was a kid sitting in Mahesh Bhatt sahab’s lap, I was struggling and I am struggling today as well. I only want to be a part of good stories. Mai sangharsh se nahi bhaag Raha, aadhe se zyada jeevan usi mai nikal gaya mera,” he elaborated.
