Actor Priyanka Chopra recently discussed how she was subjected to body shaming, and how she handled the situation. The actor revealed how she cried in front of her husband, singer-actor Nick Jonas, and other family members, when someone told her she wasn’t “sample sized.”
In an interview with Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke at the South by Southwest Film Festival (SXSW 2023) in Los Angeles, Priyanka said, “I’ve been told many things that are difficult to hear. I arrived feeling crappy because somebody told me yesterday I wasn’t ‘sample sized.’” She continued, “I was hurt, and I discussed it with my family, and I cried to my husband and my team, and I felt really bad about the fact I’m not sample-sized and that that’s a problem, apparently. Most of us are not. ‘Sample-sized’ is a size 2. Who’s a size 2? I don’t see a lot of hands.”
A few months ago, Priyanka had opened up about being called a ‘black cat.’ In an interview with BBC, the actor said, “I was called ‘black cat’, ‘dusky’. I mean, what does ‘dusky’ even mean in a country where we are literally all brown? I thought I was not pretty enough, I believed that I would have to work a lot harder, even though I thought I was probably a little bit more talented than my fellow actors who were lighter skinned. But I thought that was right because it was so normalised.”
Priyanka will next be seen in the streaming series Citadel, opposite Richard Madden. The first trailer for the spy-thriller was recently released and Priyanka will portray the role of Nadia Sinh.
