Priyanka Chopra attended the grand world premiere of her upcoming Prime Video series Citadel in London on Tuesday. She was joined by her husband, actor-singer Nick Jonas, her mother Madhu, and her cast mates, Richard Madden and Stanley Tucci. Priyanka made a splash on the red carpet, where she wore a ravishing red dress.
But despite the strides she is making at a global level, she allowed her inner Indian to be seen on a couple of occasions. During a Q&A session, a fan in the crowd began singing the song ‘Desi Girl’ at her. Priyanka seemed to be amused, as she beamed in the fan’s direction. Madden, who was sitting next to her, also smiled. “I love you, Priyanka! Congratulations,” the fan screamed, as Priyanka laughed and thanked them. As she got up to leave, she did a little jig, and the fan congratulated her once again.
The clip was posted on Priyanka’s fan clubs on Instagram, which allowed other admirers to react to it. “I can’t stop watching this,” one person wrote in the comments section, while others dropped heart eye emojis. ‘Desi Girl’, from the film Dostana, is perhaps Priyanka’s most popular Bollywood dance number. As she continued to make inroads in Hollywood, the moniker has stuck.
Another fan brought along a thoughtful present. Taking off from a recent Instagram post that Priyanka had posted about ‘smuggling’ mangoes, a fan told Priyanka that she’d brought ‘something very funny’ for her, because she didn’t want the actor to ‘smuggle’. Priyanka said with a laugh, “You brought me mango?” “I’m so sorry, I could only think of this,” the fan said. “It’s amazing, thank you,” Priyanka said, as she posed with the package, and signed a few autographs for the fan.
The interaction was posted on Instagram by Priyanka’s fan club. “This is so sweet ❤️❤️❤️,” one fan commented, while others admired Priyanka’s beauty, and the red dress that she was wearing. In her Instagram post a couple of days ago, Priyanka had shared a glimpse inside her bag, which contained her passport and a single mango. “Is smuggling a (mango emoji) legal? Asking for a friend,” she’d written in the caption of her post.
Priyanka and Richard Madden were recently in India to participate in a round of promotions for Citadel. They also attended an India premiere for the show. Executive produced by the Russo brothers, Citadel is touted to be one of the most expensive series ever produced. The show reportedly ran into some behind-the-scenes trouble, with a large portion of it being reshot and the initial eight-episode story being abandoned in favour of a shorter six-episode run.
The first two episodes will land on Prime Video on April 28. A second season plus international spinoffs, including on in India starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, are also in development.
