Om Raut’s Adipurush, which debuted with mixed-to-negative reviews, has been making headlines for its VFX, cringe dialogues and poor characterisation. Even the portrayal of Raghav (Ram) by Prabhas has received criticism from the audience and critics alike. Prabhas has now revealed if he had any apprehensions before saying yes to playing the role of Lord Ram.
Prabhas told Hindustan Times, “There were apprehensions, but no reservations. Portraying such a revered figure comes with a great responsibility, considering the emotional and spiritual attachment people have towards Prabhu Shri Ram.”
He added, “This film revolves around the epic tale of Ramayana, which is deeply rooted in Indian culture and religion. Hence, my approach was to portray this part with utmost authenticity and respect, as we’ve have all grown up listening to this story, and there are numerous emotional and spiritual aspects attached to it.”
Adipurush also stars Kriti Sanon as Janaki (Sita) and Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh (Ravan). Despite the negative reviews, the film has managed to mint Rs 340 crore in the first three days. Talking about the negative reviews, Raut had said in an interview with Republic, “What is more important is the type of response that the film is getting at the box office. I’m very happy to say that we are going for an unprecedented number of day one of the global box office.”
He added, “Ramayana is so large that it is impossible for anybody to understand. If they say that you understand Ramayana, they are fools, or they are lying.”
Adipurush released in theatres on June 16. The makers recently decided to change certain controversial dialogues of the film after receiving criticism for the same.
