Param Sundari Box Office Collection Day 7: After courting controversy for reinforcing stereotypes and being compared to the likes of Chennai Express, Param Sundari has completed its first week at the box office. According to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, the Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor-starrer’s India net collection has crossed the Rs 40 crore mark. The film earned Rs 2.75 crore on day seven, and the makers will be looking for some relief during the upcoming weekend.
The film currently has nearly 4,000 shows all over the country, with Delhi NCR taking the top spot with 1123 shows. Considering the large number of shows, the film looks to be struggling in theatres, especially when compared to other recent films. Starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, Saiyaara hit the Rs 170 crore mark within the first week. War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr, had almost crossed the Rs 200 crore mark by the same time, while Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 sat at the Rs 90 crore mark.
The occupancy for Param Sundari remained low throughout the day, with the average rate coming to 9.12%. The morning and afternoon shows managed rates of 7.51% and 9.71%, and things didn’t pick up during the evening and night shows, with occupancy rates sitting at 8.71% and 10.48%. This is certainly concerning for Maddock Films, the same production house that was responsible for Chhaava (Rs 601 cr), which broke almost every record at the Indian box office this year.
While Janhvi’s last film, Devara: Part 1 (Rs 292 cr), did quite well at the box office, she only had a blink-and-miss appearance in it. Sidharth has been looking for a win since Kapoor & Sons (2016). His last few theatrical releases, such as Yodha, Thank God and Marjaavaan, all struggled to make a mark.
Directed by Tushar Jalota, the cast of Param Sundari includes Sidharth, Janhvi, Majot Singh, Sanjay Kapoor, Renji Panicker, and Abhishek Banerjee. The music has been composed by Sachin-Jigar, who worked last with Sidharth on A Gentleman. While movies like Chhaava are out of Param Sundari’s reach, it remains to be seen whether it will be able to compete with other romantic films in Maddock’s filmography, such as Love Aaj Kal (Rs 66.25 cr), Cocktail (Rs 71.24 cr), Zara Hatke Zara Bachke (Rs 88.35 cr), and Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (Rs 85.16 cr).
