Anurag Kashyap is  known as the film director who gave independent cinema a new name in India but years before he found his identity as the poster boy for non-mainstream films, he was once associated with Salman Khan’s Tere Naam as the director. In a recent interview, Anurag said that he was “ghosted” from the film after he asked Salman to grow chest hair for the film and the producer reacted badly to it.

“I was not asked to leave Tere Naam, the film ghosted on me,” Anurag told Bollywood Bubble. Anurag recalled, “I asked Salman a certain thing, after that nobody got back to me. I didn’t not even know when the film started shooting, and what happened.” Late director-actor Satish Kaushik eventually directed the film and Anurag said that even he did not know about Anurag’s previous involvement with the film.

“Even Satish ji didn’t know that I was supposed to be a part of it,” he said and spoke about his involvement in the film, “I was very involved, scripting was done. We were about to start the shoot.” Recalling the point of the conflict, he shared, “I just asked Salman to grow chest hair and he also didn’t say anything. It was the producer who reacted.” Tere Naam released in 2003 and even two decades later, Anurag said he has still not met Salman Khan again. “I’ve never met him since then. I have come across him once or twice and said ‘hello’.”

Anurag’s brother Abhinav Kashyap famously directed Salman in Dabangg and the film won a National Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

In an earlier episode of Unfiltered By Samdish, Anurag had spoken up about the same incident and said that his favourite Salman movies are Sultan, Dabangg and Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
