Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh recalled some of his memorable roles and co-stars in a recent chat. He discussed his experience working with Katrina Kaif and Salman Khan, and why he took a break from acting. The actor got candid in an interview with FilmyGyan, as he discussed his career, family, and his relationship with fellow co-stars. Neil celebrated 20 years in the industry, and talked about his journey as an actor. “Sometimes, I feel that my journey has just started and I don’t realise that it has been 20 years unless I look at my filmography,” said the 43 year old.
The Prem Ratan Dhan Payo actor talked about working with Salman Khan and how he bagged the role in the Sooraj Barjatya film. He talked about how his mother took him and his sister to watch Hum Aapke Hai Koun in theaters, and after spending one-fourth of their monthly budget on the tickets, his mother made him promise that one day he would work with Salman Khan and director Sooraj Barjatya.
“When I got the chance to work in the film, I jumped at the opportunity because I wanted to fulfil the promise I made to my mother,” he said, adding that Salman was very kind to him on the set. He also mentioned that director Sooraj Barjatya had asked him if he was okay playing second fiddle to another actor, as he had been playing the lead role for quite some time.
“It’s true that I was looking for a strong lead role to revive my career, but I thought working in any capacity with someone like Salman Khan would help me in reaching my goals,” added the Lafangey Parindey actor.
The audience at the show was curious to know why Neil took a break from the films. The actor answered that while he needed the money, he could not connect with the work that was being offered to him. “I could have done more films, but none of the roles I was doing satisfied me.” He also clarified that he does not consider himself underrated, but he does wonder if his work should be talked about more. “Whenever I have time on my hands, I sometimes feel underappreciated, but the moment I enter a film set, I turn into a very simple and humble guy who is only there to do his job,” he said.
Neil Nitin Mukesh was last seen in the ZEE5 film Hissab Barabar, alongside R Madhavan, where he played the role of corrupt banker Mickey Mehta.
