The 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is currently underway in the French Riviera and will conclude on May 27 this year. Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, by his own admission, has attended the film festival nine times. After frequenting the prestigious film festival, the actor fails to understand why some people go there. He also reveals how it is not difficult to get your movie screened at the Cannes Film Festival, even if it doesn’t get selected officially.
Nawazuddin, in a new interview, shared his experience of being at the Cannes Film Festival and following the drill — go to the red carpet, get photos clicked, give interviews, and attend the screening of your film. But, the actor said that a good review at the film festival doesn’t necessarily mean your movie will get the audience back home in India, as it happened with his film Miss Lovely (2012).
However, Nawazuddin Siddiqui explained how screening your film is simple at Cannes Film Festival, even without getting selected officially. “There, this also happens that you take your film, irrespective if it is selected officially or not, there are auditoriums, hire them, give money to the owner of the auditorium, lay your own red carpet, take your own people, click photos there, and show the movie to your people. Come back and say, ‘Our film got screened at Cannes Film Festival’,” Nawaz told Lallantop.
The actor, who will be next seen in Jogira Sara Ra Ra, also said he fails to understand why some people even go to Cannes Film Festival. He added, “I don’t know why some people go there. When I used to go there and meet people, I would ask them, ‘Aap kyun? Aap kaise? (How come you are here?) Pata hi nahi chalta tha kyun aaye hain, they would say, ‘Humaari bhi film aayi hai (our film has also come to Cannes), par kahan hai (but where is it), you will never know.”
This year, the Indian celebrities who attended the Cannes Film Festival included Sunny Leone, Esha Gupta, Anurag Kashyap, Sara Ali Khan, Manushi Chillar, Mouni Roy and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, among others.
