We’ve often seen Navya Naveli Nanda engage in spirited discussions with her grandmother Jaya Bachchan and mother Shweta Bachchan on her podcast. In a recent interaction, Navya shared that the same dynamic exists in their home too — they discuss, debate, and even disagree, but mutual respect remains at the core of every conversation. She also spoke about growing up with her grandparents, Jaya and Amitabh Bachchan, and how that shaped her values and outlook.

Speaking to Mojo Story, she said, “I have spent so much time with my grandparents growing up, and still do, we still live together, which is an unusual thing for young people. We don’t fight, we have healthy debates on a lot of things. It’s a conversation around things that are relevant today and that matter.”

She added, “For anyone who has seen a podcast, they will know that every episode is a disagreement or a discussion. Surprisingly, there isn’t a clash, even though we are very different personalities, we actually have similar values more than anything that defines who I am. It’s the values that I was brought up with, and they are a very specific set of values that both sides of my family have instilled in us.”

Navya shared that not just her, but her brother Agastya Nanda and her cousin — Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s daughter Aaradhya — have also grown up learning the importance of respect. “The first thing that we have grown up around is a lot of respect and family. I think respect is something that is at the heart of who we are as people, whether it’s my grandparents or the youngest member in my family, my cousin or my brother. We have a lot of respect, not just for each other or for people, but also for what we do and where we come from,” she said.

Navya also reflected on how she realised that her mother’s role as a homemaker was just as significant as her father Nikhil Nanda’s role as a businessman. She shared, “It’s not about whether you are a CEO or a homemaker. It’s about having enough respect for the choice to be whatever you want to be. No one is ‘just’ a homemaker and I have learnt this through the work I have done. Mothers and homemakers don’t get enough credit for what they do. A lot of credit is given to a CEO running a multibillion-dollar company juggling different departments. A homemaker is responsible for building the next generation of leaders and is juggling a lot. That is a very important role that we don’t give enough credit to.”

She added, “Now that I am a lot older, I look back and realise that both my parents spent a lot of time shaping who I am today. And only now I am realising that it is a very selfless and thankless job. We don’t say thank you enough to our parents and to the people who raise us — and that, to me, is empowerment.”
