It’s the clash of two big titans at the box-office today as Hrithik Roshan’s period drama, Mohenjo Daro and Akshay Kumar’s thriller, Rustom takes on. And with both movies being backed by big names, it will be a head-to-head fight in the game of numbers this weekend. Let’s take a look at how they have fared in different aspects till a day before their release

Marketing:
Rustom has undoubtedly stolen a march ahead of Mohenjo Daro owing to its smart marketing strategy. Akshay’s masterstroke in getting fellow Bollywood actors to shoot and post videos to make Rustom trending has undoubtedly set the tone right for the film. Mohenjo Daro, on the other hand, has found sparse takers among the Bollywood fraternity with almost everyone reserving their love for Rustom. Strange since actors had promoted Hrithik’s Bang Bang with great fervour. Wonder if this is the Kangana effect.

Trailer:
Rustom again emerged as the winner here with Akshay’s navy uniform laced patriotic act receiving a huge thumbs up. Mohenjo Daro received lukewarm to negative reactions with many criticising the costumes used in the period drama.

Music:
While Rustom doesn’t exactly boast of great music, one could say owing to A R Rahman the scores in the period film were slightly better. However, this isn’t clearly one of Rahman’s best ever tunes.

Plot:
Rustom has a predictable plot that is loosely based on the famous Nanavati case of the 60s. Mohenjo Daro professes to tell a love tale in an era that has never been showcased before in Bollywood. If intrigue is king, Daro has an upper hand here.

Superstars:
Fresh after his back-to-back success(Airlift, Housefull 3), Akshay would be looking to consolidate his position with this Independence Day release. Hrithik, on the other hand, is returning to silver screen after facing some tumultuous time in his personal life courtesy Kangana Ranaut and would be eager to make amends with a blockbuster hit. Going sheerly by their star power, both films should have equal footfalls.

Screen numbers:
This is what will dictate the profit margin. Rustom seems to have found favour among multiplexes while Mohenjo Daro has pulled in single screen theatres into its fold. However, the ultimate difference in screen numbers is not big which means both films have a fair chance of making their cut at the box-office.
