Though the Bhojpuri film industry is now worth thousands of crores, many youngsters know the industry for its double-meaning dialogues and hilarious titles. In a recent interview, Bhojpuri actor Manoj Tiwari addressed the prevalent misconception surrounding the Bhojpuri film industry. Manoj emphasised that the projects he chose to be a part of carried meaningful messages. However, when questioned about the controversial title of his film, Ego Chumma Deda Rajaji, produced by Hindi film actor Bhagyashree, he shifted the blame to co-star Ravi Kishan.
When asked about the controversial title of the film Ego Chumma Deda Rajaji, Manoj shared during Aap Ki Adalat, “Ask this to Ravi Kishan. If I speak, it will create controversy. I was not in support of this name. This film was produced by Bhagyashree, the actress who starred opposite Salman Khan in Maine Pyar Kiya. When she turned producer with Ego Chumma Deda Rajaji, she cast me as the hero. And since the film had two lead characters – one character was from a village and another character was a milkman in Mumbai. Ravi played the role of the milkman. If you see the film, the whole film is very good, but only in the end the girl says, ‘If you are not upset then give me a kiss on the cheeks’.”
Stating that he was not in favour of the film’s title, Manoj said, “They named the entire film based on this one gesture. I called it out and said this name isn’t right. Bhagyashree realised the problem. But Ravi said, “Nahi nahi yeh hi chalta hai (No no this only works). I told them this name doesn’t suit Bhagyashree’s image as she has played clean characters on screen. And like I guessed it right, the film didn’t perform well.”
In the interview, Manoj also discussed his old rivalry with Ravi Kishan and called them the Shah Rukh Khan-Salman Khan of Bhojpuri cinema. However, he also clarified that there is no bad blood between them now. Manoj and Ravi both are members of the ruling BJP party.
