Shah Rukh Khan and Manisha Koirala’s Dil Se, directed by legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam has clocked 26 years. Manisha Koirala, the female protagonist of the film, recently opened up about her co-star SRK and why the two never shared the screen after Dil Se.

Talking to Zoom, Koirala said that after Dil Se, she and SRK worked together in a film called Guddu but nobody knows about it. She also said that she doesn’t have a definitive answer on why the two of them never shared the screen and said, “You will have to ask him (SRK)”.

Dil Se remains one of the iconic films in the history of Indian films and both Shah Rukh and Manisha continue to receive love and appreciation for their work in the Mani Ratnam directorial. About not sharing the screen with SRK even after the success of Dil Se, she further told the publication, “In this industry, the heroes decide whom they want to work with, not the heroines.” She then shared that she considers Dil Se among her best works along with Mani Ratnam’s Bombay and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Khamoshi and Heeramandi.

While Dil Se has passed the test of time and remains one of the most coveted films in India, it was not a box office success at the time. Talking about the film’s underwhelming box office performance when it released in cinemas, Mani Ratnam had said that it could be because his Hindi “isn’t all that good”. He shared that while shooting for Dil Se, he had to depend a lot on his actors to “put the scenes across”.

Dil Se released on August 21, 1998. Along with Manisha Koirala and Shah Rukh Khan also starred Preity Zinta. Even when the film was not a box office success, it was loved by the audience and its music, composed by AR Rahman, continue to receive love by the music and film lovers all around the world.
