Maniesh Paul spent a large part of his career hosting television and award shows and through all those years of live interaction, he had a few interesting experiences. When asked about one of those incidents that still holds a place in his mind, Paul spoke about the time when Akshay Kumar shouted at him which left him quite embarrassed but he managed to rescue the situation.

In an interview with Humans of Bombay, Maniesh was asked about a funny story with a celebrity. He then spoke about the time when he had just started hosting film awards. The JugJugg Jeeyo actor shared that as Akshay Kumar was stepping off the stage, he asked him a question but the Bollywood star shot back at him and asked him to shut up.

“He said chup kar (shut up) in a stern tone. I started sweating at this. My mother had also come for the first time to see my work. I was so embarrassed that beizzati hogayi (I’ve been insulted),” he shared in Hindi.

Knowing that this could either mean the end of his career or the start of a new one, he decided to go with the flow. Maniesh shared that he followed Akshay to his seat, even when his director was warning him not to do so. “I started telling him how he insulted me in front of my mother. I said I was just asking him for tips on acting. Our conversation just went to another level and everyone was in splits,” he added.

Maniesh shared that it was a fun time and Akshay later also congratulated him for his humour. The Khiladi star also told him that he was just having fun with him. “I tell this to everyone to keep the humour light. That’s how it needs to be done,” he added.

The Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa host earlier had spoken to indianexpress.com about the tough phase in his career. Sharing that every actor goes through a series of highs and lows, he said that he’s never sought sympathy from anyone. Maniesh also added that he never even calls it a ‘struggle’ as that has been his journey. “Like Amitabh Bachchan once said ‘Jab tak jeevan hai, tab tak sangarsh hai’. I too believe in it and don’t look back at anything with regret. Hit or flops, I take onus of everything and have no blame or complaints.”

However, he did add that there was a time when he hit rock bottom but emerged out of it like a phoenix. “I remember before Jhalak, the whole year I was at home with no work. Swallowing meals would be tough. My wife was earning and so supportive throughout. God has been kind as after that phase, everything was just so much better. I think the fire that I developed during that phase helped me burn the stage,” he said. Maniesh was recently seen in web show Rafuchakkar.
