Malaika Arora and Arjun Kapoor started dating in 2018 but recently, there have been rumours that the couple has broken up with each other. While the rumours started a few weeks ago, they gained steam after Malaika was absent at Arjun’s midnight birthday celebrations. While the couple is yet to address the status of their relationship directly, Malaika, in a recent interview, opened up about the “idea of true love.”

In a chat with Hello Magazine, Malaika said that while she is a romantic at heart who will fight for love, she is also very realistic when it comes to relationships. “I’ll never give up on the idea of true love, no matter what. I’m a typical Scorpio that way, so I’ll fight for love till the very end — but I’m also very realistic and know where to draw the line,” she said.

In the same chat, Malaika also spoke about “fairytale endings” and said that it took her some time to realise that real life is quite different from fairytales. But despite that, she still holds on to some optimism. When asked about the hardest lessons she has learnt in life, Malaika said, “Probably the realisation that nothing in life is permanent. We’ve all been brought up reading stories that have fairytale endings and were led to believe that’s how life is… But that’s not what life is and it’s something you only realise later on. Of course, I still hold on to a certain optimism, but nothing is permanent in life. Things change. Equations also change drastically… and you must be prepared for it. Permanency doesn’t exist…”

Throughout their relationship, Malaika was at the receiving end of a lot of social media hate. Since she is one of those celebrities who is often clicked when she is out and about, Malaika has also faced a lot of trolling in the comments section. She opened up about her coping mechanism with trolls and said that she does not like to engage with such energy. “I have somehow built a mechanism — or shield, I would say — around me where I don’t let the negativity through anymore. I’ve insulated myself from it. Whether it’s people, a work environment, social media or trolls,” she said and added, “The minute I feel that energy, I recoil instantly. It’s something I’ve learned to do over time. It would get to me earlier and I would lose sleep over it. I’d be lying if I said things don’t affect me at all — I’m human too and so I will cry, break down and have all the emotions associated with being trolled.”

She said that she does not feel the need to engage with anonymous trolls on the internet and said, “I don’t need to have a dialogue with some nameless, faceless person on the internet and justify myself to them — trolls mean nothing to me.” She said that she is not oblivious to what happens online but likes to maintain some distance. “I’m aware of everything, I’m not living under a rock — but I just distance myself from it,” she said.
