Kunal Kemmu‘s directorial debut Madgaon Express, starring Pratik Gandhi, Nora Fatehi, Divyenndu, and Avinash Tiwary in the lead roles, is gaining steam at the box office thanks to a strong word of mouth. With so much hype, the box office collections for the movie have also seen a spike.
According to the makers, Madgaon Express earned Rs 2.81 crore on Sunday, taking the total collection in India to Rs 7.16 crore. With this, Madgaon Express’s opening weekend collection has overtaken that of Randeep Hooda’s Swatantra Veer Savarkar, which has managed to collect Rs 6.10 crore so far.
On day 1, Madgaon Express collected Rs 1.63 crore at the Indian box office. It saw a significant spike on Day 2, earning Rs 2.72 crore. Though on day 3, the jump is not as big, the film’s figures show an upward trajectory. On Sunday, the movie’s Hindi occupancy was 18.90 per cent with night shows seeing the highest number of footfalls.
Talking about the film earlier, director Kunal Kemmu had shared that he tried to make Madgaon Express within the allocated budget. His idea behind this was that even if the movie wouldn’t garner the collections as expected, it would still be a reasonable film.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of Holi, Kunal shared some beautiful memories from his directorial debut, Madgaon Express. He wrote on Instagram, “From day 1 of shoot to the day I said the last pack up on the sets of Madgoan Express. Each day has been so special in so many ways. And I couldn’t have done it without my amazing team of actors and technicians. To the many colours of friendship that the film showcases and the many colours of my own personality that I got to explore through this film. I wish you all a very happy Holi and thank you so much for all the love that you have shown to our film. May this festival of colours bring you all you happiness and good luck.”
Madgaon Express was released in theatres on March 22. The film, produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment, revolves around three childhood friends who dreamed about a Goa Trip since the time they were in school. As adults they finally make the trip happen, but only for things to take a turn for the worse.
