Suniel Shetty has often expressed his immense joy after the birth of his granddaughter, Evaarah — daughter of Athiya Shetty and KL Rahul. Now, cricketer KL Rahul has opened up about how fatherhood has changed him, making him a calmer and happier person. Evaarah was born in March this year.
Speaking to ETimes, Rahul shared that family has always been the most important part of his life, and he had long dreamt of having his own children. Talking about Evaarah, he said, “I never thought I could be any calmer or happier, but I can confidently say when you have a child, you feel emotions you’ve never felt before.”
The cricketer went on to admit that along with joy and peace, fatherhood has also brought a new kind of fear — the instinct to protect his little one. “There’s so much joy, peace, and even fear, because you want to protect this little special thing in your arms. It’s not just a part of you, it’s your whole heart in your hand,” he said.
Rahul further admitted that while one can prepare for fatherhood, there’s no real way to predict what kind of parent one will be. “I try and do the best by my child. I don’t think you can ever plan what kind of father you’re going to be, because you don’t know what kind of a personality your baby is going to be,” he added.
The cricketer also opened up about his bond with the Shetty family, admitting that they’ve shown him what it truly means to value family. Rahul revealed that because of his hectic cricketing schedule, he hadn’t been able to spend much time with his own family or build a strong connection earlier. However, growing older has changed his perspective. Spending time with Athiya and observing the love and care she has for her parents inspired him to prioritize family more.
He said, “I’ve realised coming into this family how tight and how close they are”, adding “That feeling of just switching off from the chaos that you feel in high-pressure jobs when you spend time with family, have a meal, and just talk about life — I feel like that’s the best way I’ve learned to switch off from the chaos of cricket and the pressure of performance. That’s something I’ve learned through Athiya and their family.”
