After years of keeping it under wraps, Vishal Bhardwaj has officially released a short video announcing his highly anticipated film, Khufiya. The makers unveiled an amusing announcement video featuring the film’s lead stars, Tabu, Ali Fazal, and Wamiqa Gabbi, playfully pleading Vishal to reveal some details about the film.

The clip begins with the line, “Khufiya shoot 12 hours to go…,” and shows Tabu frustratedly looking at a script filled with thick lines but no text. She says, “What does this mean? Script is ‘khufiya‘ as well as the dialogues.” Ali Fazal is similarly kept in the dark about the script and can be seen urging the filmmaker to share some information. Meanwhile, Wamiqa Gabbi is not even allowed to disclose that she is working with Vishal Bhardwaj. The video humorously portrays how the filmmaker and the actors went to great lengths to ensure that no information about the film was leaked to the media.

The film’s first look was released over a year ago in August 2022.

In an earlier interview with PTI, Tabu described Khufiya as more than just a typical spy thriller, noting that it embodies the classic Vishal Bhardwaj style. She said, “It (the film) has turned out really well. It’s thrilling, but different, like a classic Vishal film with his signature touch. We also have a fantastic ensemble cast, and it was so much fun collaborating with them. It is a personal film for all of us because we shot it quietly in Delhi, then in Canada. It’s a world that will, hopefully, pull you in.”

Khufiya draws inspiration from true events and is based on the popular espionage novel ‘Escape to Nowhere’ by Amar Bhushan. Vishal Bhardwaj serves as both the producer and director of the film, which will release on Netflix.
