Actor Kartik Aaryan, who will soon be seen in the sports drama film Chandu Champion, recently opened up about the lowest phase of his life. He recalled when his mother, Mala Tiwari, was diagnosed with cancer and underwent chemotherapy. Kartik shared that this happened when he was shooting for his 2018 film Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. He now describes it as the “worst time” of his life.
In a chat with Raj Shamani on his YouTube channel, Kartik said, “My low phase was during my mother’s cancer. I am saying this because this was the lowest point in my life, and this was happening during the shoot of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. When that was going on, I couldn’t understand how to go for the shoot, how to continue working, but I think there was this mentality of never giving up. You go for chemotherapy and you continue your work too. I think that was the worst time of my life.”
The Bhool Bhulaiyaa actor said that his mother is now “fit” and he is glad that they are over that phase. “But when this was going on, if I didn’t have the never give up attitude, then perhaps I would have given up,” he said. Kartik said that during this phase, he felt like giving up, but his mother encouraged him to continue the shoot. “I was ready to give up everything at one point. I felt like I couldn’t work at that point. My mom told me… she asked me to work,” he said.
Kartik said that he and his mother have always had a “beautiful” relationship. “We are very close. I am scared of her, but I love her too. I have always had the same kind of relationship with her, since childhood, there’s no change,” he said.
Previously, in May 2023, Kartik had opened up about his mother’s cancer on X. He’d written, “Some time ago during this month the Big C – ‘Cancer’ sneakily crept in and tried to rattle the lives of our family ! We were frazzled and helpless beyond despair! But thanks to the willpower, resilience and never give up attitude of this fierce soldier – My Mom, we turned to the Bigger C- ‘Courage’ and marched with all our might and won the dark but destined to win war! What it taught us eventually and continues to teach us every day, is that there’s no superpower bigger than the love and support of your family! ❤️”
