Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor Khan, who was recently seen in Jaane Jaan, has opened up about her mother Babita and how she was a backbone for sister Karisma Kapoor during her early days in the movies. Kareena also discussed how Babita had to adjust when Kareena started working and adapt to the changing times. In the 1990s, Babita would be known as the ‘star mother’ who was with Karisma at all her shoots but in the 2000s, when Kareena made her debut, Babita started letting go as Kareena was much more independent.

In an interview with Mid-Day, Kareena said, “I think I get my confidence and my independence from my mother. She was such a backbone of Karisma’s career, taking her down south, getting her that film, doing all of that. So, I saw my mother in a different light. She has been like a lioness with her cubs. My father is still very, very open, cosmopolitan, and I also have to give him credit that he has also encouraged me and my sister.”

Kareena said that when three women are under one roof, they can do anything and added that that’s exactly what her mother did. She said, “Saif says, you all are the Holy Trinity, my mom, me, and Karisma. Three women under one roof, we can do anything, women can do anything, and I think that’s what she did. She took on the world, she pushed Karisma’s career.”

The actor continued, “And then, you know, it was a changing time. She was someone who was always with Lolo, because in the ’90s, you always saw the star mother. But the 2000s came, and me being younger and a different generation, it was suddenly… she had to take to the fact that I was much more independent. But that’s how she raised me. It wasn’t the star mother (culture anymore), and she had to obviously be the mother, but she never came on the shoots. She adapted to that.”

Kareena made her debut in Bollywood with the film Refugee, which was released in the year 2000. She starred alongside Abhishek Bachchan in the movie.
