Kareena Kapoor has been speaking highly of her two Jaane Jaan co-stars, Vijay Varma and Jaideep Ahlawat, for what seems like weeks. She even revealed that her husband, Saif Ali Khan, told her that she must be on her toes with them around, because of their formidable talent and FTII education. But in a new interview, she admitted that while she can deliver an equally strong performance as them, for them to do what she has been doing for over two decades in Hindi movies wasn’t as easy.
On the first day of shoot, Jaideep revealed in an interview with Film Companion, Kareena made him pout, and he kept telling her that he can’t. “Kyun, FTII mein pout karna nahi sikhaya (Why, FTII didn’t teach you how to pout)?” she quipped, as the live audience roared.
Jaideep confessed that he was swept away by Kareena’s beauty, and recalled a funny anecdote from set when a camera operator nearly tripped and fell while capturing Kareena in a closeup. “It’s very hard to look into her eyes and not admire (her beauty),” Jaideep said, adding, “There was a shot where I open the door and she is there. They’re trying for a closeup. The cameraman is standing, the camera is on his shoulder. Action was called, the door opened, and he nearly fell down. I made fun of him all day. I said, ‘You think it’s easy looking into those eyes?'”
“What rubbish,” Kareena said, blushing. Director Sujoy Ghosh added, “Kenny could’ve died. He almost fell, he could’ve died. Then we would have to look for another cinematographer; we didn’t have the budget. And Taimur is too small to lift the camera.” A remake of the Japanese novel The Devotion of Suspect X, Jaane Jaan will be released on Netflix on Thursday.
