Days after Nadaaniyan released on Netflix, producer of the film Karan Johar took to Instagram and posted a picture in a hotel room with a rather confusing caption. The director wrote “Living on a plane..what a privilege to be an outsider from the plane and an insider to the warmth of my hotel room. I am so happy to be entitled to my own thoughts and cut off from WHYFI.”
The producer’s latest film, Nadaaniyan, did not receive a fairy-tale reception from the fans or critics. While the movie was trending in 29 countries and bagged the No. 1 spot in the Top 10 on Netflix India, the views are definitely not making up for the reviews. The Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor starrer currently sits at a rating of 17% on Rotten Tomatoes and 4.6/10 on IMDb.
Audiences and critics have both pointed out the apparent lack of depth in the narrative and how both the lead actors failed to make an impact with their performances. Everyone involved with the film seems to be in damage control mode, with Ibrahim posting a cropped picture of the film’s IMDb page showing only the users who gave the film 10/10. His sister, actor Sara Ali Khan posted several pictures on Instagram and snippets from the movie, praising her brother’s performance and how well the movie was doing on Netflix.
The Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham director seems to be taking the backlash in stride. He was seen celebrating with the stars of the reality TV show Fabulous Lives Of Bollywood Wives after they won the award for the Best Reality or Best Non-Scripted Show at the 2025 IIFA digital awards.
