Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is receiving a lot from the audience, and at the film’s recent success meet in Mumbai, the film’s cast and director spoke at length about their experiences with each other. Karan, who has previously spoken about how Tota Roy Chowdhury’s character was deeply personal for him, shared that the scene in which Ranveer Singh’s Rocky goes lingerie shopping with his future mother-in-law, played by Churni Ganguly, is also inspired by a personal experience.
Karan said that he has bought lingerie for his mother, and while this wasn’t unusual for him, his friends were “horrified” when they found out. The director said that he was raised by a “very progressive mother,” and added that going lingerie shopping was “never a taboo topic.” He shared, “I’ve gone shopping for her (mother) to buy a bra and it’s never been a problem with me. But I do know that while I did it there were friends who were with me and were horrified that I was actually doing this and why I wasn’t designating this job to a female friend of mine. And I was like, why? It was asked by my mother, so why would I send somebody else to do it?”
After Ranveer and Churni’s scene at the lingerie shop, Ranveer’s Rocky is realises that he shouldn’t be treating a piece of clothing like it’s toxic material.
