After leaving audiences curious for a while, Yash Raj Films has finally announced the secret behind Bhajan Kumar. And it’s none other than (drumrolls) Vicky Kaushal. “Kanhaiya Twitter Pe Aaja”, the first song from YRF’s next family drama The Great Indian Family, was dropped on Wednesday, giving a glimpse of Vicky’s character, who is a local singer.

The catchy number sees the actor dancing as he celebrates the greatness of Lord Krishna. Dressed in shiny outfits, Vicky rocks the heartland avatar as he grooves with a group of dancers. He also sports a small ponytail (choti) that many religiously inclined people have. Wanting to tap into the new generation and their love for social media, terms like digital phone and even Twitter have been used in the song. However, it’s ironic how Twitter has now been named X by Elon Musk.

Composed by Pritam, “Kanhaiya Twitter Pe Aaja” has been sung by Nakash Aziz. While Amitabh Bhattacharya penned the lyrics, Vijay A Ganguly has been credited as the choreographer. The song received mixed reviews from fans as they dropped comments like “Mast Video Song Hai Bhai”, “Bekar gaana”, “Vicky is looking amazing” and “Ghor kalyug hai bhai aise bhi Gane banne lage kanhaiya Twitter pe aaja.”

Addressing the ‘guessing game’ by the production house, and talking about his character Bhajan Kumar in the film, Vicky Kaushal, in a statement, said, “I play a singing star named Bhajan Kumar in our quirky family entertainer The Great Indian Family and we decided to have some fun before we actually revealed the fact that I was playing this character in the film!”

He added, “As an actor, I love to bring smiles to the faces of people and I hope I was able to achieve it. So, now the cat’s out of the bag! I hope people love my new avatar in TGIF. I’m eager to see how Bhajan Kumar is received by audiences. I know I have poured my heart into bringing him to life on the big screen.”

Directed by Dhoom fame Vijay Krishna Acharya, The Great Indian Family also stars Manushi Chhillar, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Sadiya Siddiqui, Alka Amin, Srishti Dixit, Bhuvan Arora, Ashutosh Ujjwal and Bharti Perwani. It will hit cinema halls on September 22.
