Kangana Ranaut slams Sonu Sood for comparing food vendor spitting in meal to Shabri’s Ramayana episode; latter says he never ‘justified’ act

Actor Sonu Sood on Saturday denied equating a cook allegedly spitting in food with Lord Ram eating Shabri’s berries in the Ramayana, and rallied for “severe punishment” for those who engage in such acts. The tweet was posted after actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut slammed him for seemingly justifying the act.

On Friday, Sonu Sood had reacted to the Uttar Pradesh government’s order to all eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display their owners’ names. The actor had tweeted, “There should be only one name plate on every shop: ‘HUMANITY’ 🇮🇳”

“I have never justified those who spit in food. It is their character which will never change. They should be given severe punishment for this. But let humanity remain humanity, friend. The time we spend in explaining to each other, we should spend that much time on the needy people! By the way, let me tell you all, I am the biggest fan of the work of the UP government. Every house in UP, Bihar is my family. Remember, no matter what state, city, religion, if you need anything, let me know. The number is the same ❤️🙏,” he tweeted.

It all began when a user had shared a video in which a food vendor is purportedly making rotis smeared with spit, and asked that to be “parceled” to the actor, reacting to which, Sood had written, “Our Shri Ram Ji ate the sour berries of Shabri, so why can’t I eat them? Violence can be defeated by non-violence my brother 🤍 Humanity must just remain intact. Jai Shri Ram 🚩”

When a news item claimed that Sonu Sood “justified” the vendor spitting while cooking, Kangana Ranaut quote-tweeted the post and wrote, “Next you know Sonu ji will direct his own Ramayana based on his own personal findings about God and religion. Wah kya baat hai Bollywood se ek aur Ramayana 👌”

Kangana also appeared to be making a reference to the upcoming Ramayana film, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita and KGF star Yash as Raavana. The film is directed by Dangal helmer Nitesh Tiwari.
