Kajol says Tanuja brought her up in ‘outstandingly brave’ manner, reveals why daughter Nysa wants to have sons

In an interview with Instant Bollywood, Kajol said, “Mothers never tell you what they are going through, they never tell you how hard it was to do what they did. Like, I look at my own childhood today and think, ‘Oh my God, I had such a wonderful childhood, never did I think what it cost my mother to give me that childhood’ and to make it so easy and fabulous for me.”

Kajol said her hope in life is to be at least “half as brave” as her mother Tanuja and do the same thing for her daughter that the veteran actor did for her.

“But now as a parent I realise that… I respect her even more, everyday, since I have had my daughter. Because I realise the things she did with me as a parent were outstandingly brave, cool and so very forward thinking coming from the society and the time that she did. I commend her. I hope I am half as brave as her, may be not as brave.”

When the actor was asked if she was ever told she would realise what it means to be a mother by Tanuja, Kajol shared a funny anecdote about her interactions with Nysa.

“My mother would say, ‘I really hope you have a daughter like yourself.’ I told my daughter the same thing one day, that I really hope and pray that you have a daughter like yourself and her answer was, ‘No, I am having sons, because I don’t think I can handle a daughter like me!’ I was like well, now you know Nysa!”

On the work front, Kajol is currently seen on The Trial- Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha, Indian adaptation of The Good Wife, which starred Julianna Margulies in the lead role. The Disney Plus Hotstar marks the digital debut of the actor.
