Bollywood actor Kajol, whose debut web series, The Trial, released on Disney Plus Hotstar on Friday, recently spoke about the massively growing paparazzi culture. She advocated the need to draw a line between clicking pictures of celebrities in public places and invading their privacy.

Kajol said that though she understands that getting clicked by the paparazzi is a part of her job, she is against photographers following the actors wherever they go and whatever they do.

“I do think this is too much right now. It is like a pendulum, it started off, and it’s gaining momentum, gaining momentum, and it’s at the height right now. It has to come down because somewhere down the line we are actors, it’s a question of balance, it will come down,” said Kajol during an interview with Miss Malini.

Narrating an incident where she was followed by two photographers on a bike, Kajol shared, “The other day I was crossing Bandra and these guys must have seen my car. They followed me. I had not gone for a shoot, I had not gone to a public place, I had not gone to a hotel or a restaurant.”

The DDLJ star pointed out how if the same would have happened to a common person, it could have been reported to the police. “Because I am a star I can’t say, ‘Why are you following me?’ Because I am a star I cannot be threatened by it. Because I am a star I have 7-8 people standing over there with cameras regardless of what I am wearing. I have to be constantly on my guard,” said Kajol.

Many celebrities have earlier spoken against the invasion of their privacy by the paparazzi. Alia Bhatt expressed her outrage on social media when the photographers reportedly positioned themselves on the terrace of a building opposite Alia’s and clicked her pictures. Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli were also clicked while they were sitting on the balcony of their house.

Arbaaz Khan had earlier spoken to indianexpress.com about the same. He said, “People should have ethics, draw a line and be aware that this might affect a celebrity. I don’t approve of such intrusive coverage. It’s also not so cool when it happens publicly, when you’re driving a car and they stop you for (a picture).”
