Jigra box office day 6: The Karan Johar-backed jailbreak actioner Jigra isn’t having the best time at the box office, as it sank further on its first Wednesday. Starring Alia Bhatt in the lead role, Jigra had a dismal sixth day, clocking Rs 1.25  cr nett, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.

Jigra’s collections dropped by a whopping 21 percent; this is its biggest fall since the Monday figures. The ideal scenario for Jigra, which had a low opening, was to pick up some pace over the weekend and trend at a stable level through the week. None of that has happened, with the Vasan Bala directorial now close to slipping below the Rs 1 cr mark– which will be a disastrous result for a film starring an A-lister.

Jigra has so far netted Rs 21.10 cr, and now has no hope of any survival at the box office. The film recorded negligible collections from its Telugu version, which was released after being promoted by stars like Ram Charan, Jr NTR, SS Rajamouli, Rana Daggubatti and Samantha.

Jigra, which released alongside the equally underperforming Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, will have a free run at the box office, but the poor audience reception and mixed critical response has pretty much sealed its fate. Jigra is currently trending like Alia’s 2014 Imtiaz Ali-directed drama Highway, which had earned Rs 1.9 cr on its sixth day. But that was a decade ago.

Highway, which was Alia’s second film, closed its lifetime collections at Rs 30 cr. Jigra might end its lifetime above Highway, but it’ll still be among the lowest earners of her career. The film’s showcasing will take a hit in two weeks time, as Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 hit the big screens this Diwali.

Alia now moves on to shooting her Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed drama Love and War, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal. She will return to the action space with YRF’s spy universe film Alpha, scheduled to hit the screens next December.
