In a recent episode of What The Hell Navya, a podcast featuring Jaya Bachchan, Shweta Bachchan, and Navya Naveli Nanda, the three women from the Bachchan family delved into discussions about handling failures and overcoming challenges. During the conversation, Jaya opened up about the tough phase her husband and iconic actor Amitabh Bachchan faced around 1990.

Reflecting on their experiences of adversity, Jaya emphasized the importance of quietly supporting loved ones during tough times. The actor recalled how she stood by Amitabh during his career setback. She said, “We went through different kind of failures in different phases of my life. When a man is going through a tough phase, it’s nice to just be there and be quiet for them. It’s nice to be silently standing there and saying listen I am here for you.” Shweta intervened and said, “I don’t agree. Sometimes all a man needs is some idea. I would like to play a more proactive role.”

Amitabh Bachchan indeed faced significant challenges in the 1990s when his company faced bankruptcy, leaving him burdened with substantial debt. In an interview with Vir Sanghvi, Bachchan candidly discussed the severity of the situation, acknowledging the attachment of all assets and properties due to outstanding debts totaling around Rs 90 crore. He said, “There were creditors on the door everyday, very embarrassing, very humiliating.”

Amitabh’s career resurrected when director Yash Chopra offered him a role in Mohabbatein. Television show Kaun Banega Crorepati also played a pivotal role in revitalising his career.
