Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan is all set to break box office records on its opening day, and perhaps even the opening weekend. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the action-thriller is expected to make Rs 75 crore across all languages in India on day one of release, which happens to be a Thursday. The morning shows for the Hindi version registered 46% occupancy, which is only expected to grow over the course of the day. Morning show occupancy on opening day was 43%, while the NCR region registered occupancy of 42%. Kolkata saw the best morning occupancy in the nation, with 66%, while Hyderabad had 62% occupancy.

A Rs 75 crore opening would be the biggest single-day collection for any Hindi film in history, and the biggest opening day collection ever for a Hindi-language film. The previous record was held by Shah Rukh’s Pathaan, which made Rs 70 crore on day two after making Rs 57 crore on opening day. The recent superhit Gadar 2 made Rs 40 crore on day one, but peaked on Independence Day, when it made Rs 55 crore. Jawan also beat Pathaan in terms of pre-sales; it sold 5.56 lakh tickets for day one, as compared to Pathaan’s 5.55 lakh tickets.

Jawan is expected to make around Rs 65 crore in the Hindi region, plus around Rs 4.5 crore each in the Tamil and Telugu versions. The film’s gross collection on opening day is expected to be around Rs 86 crore, which means that if it overperforms even slightly, it has a chance of hitting Rs 100 crore gross on day one alone.

According to Sacnilk, the movie is expected to make an additional Rs 50 crore from overseas territories on day one, which should take its opening day gross to around Rs 130 to Rs 140 crore. This will be the biggest opening ever for a Bollywood movie, and the fourth-biggest for an Indian release, behind RRR, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion and KGF: Chapter 2.

Directed by Atlee, Jawan has been engineered for pan-India success. The movie also stars South superstars Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi, who command strong interest among their fans, as does director Atlee, who has worked most prominently with Thalapathy Vijay.
