Jawan advance booking: Shah Rukh Khan starrer earns approx. Rs 14 cr from over 4 lakh tickets sale, ahead of Gadar 2 and Pathaan

Jawan's advance booking numbers have clearly indicated that it will be competing with the biggest, historic figures of another Shah Rukh Khan starrer, Pathaan.

It is basically Shah Rukh Khan vs Shah Rukh Khan at the box office. The superstar’s latest film Jawan has already set the box office on fire with unprecedented pre-ticket sales numbers for the mass actioner, set to release on September 7. The makers opened the film’s advance booking on Friday and the numbers are historic.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the three national multiplexes (PVR, Inox and Cinepolis) recorded a total ticket sale of more than two lakhs till Sunday 12 PM. Jawan will ultimately aim to beat the record of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan at national chains, which is the highest for any Bollywood film at 5,56,000 ticket sales for day one advance booking.

Jawan has sold 4, 26, 171 tickets already

The ticket sales numbers of Jawan are also huge when put into context that its full showcasing is yet to start. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Jawan has so far sold a total of 4, 26, 171 tickets, including all languages, national multiplexes and other centres, taking its gross earning to Rs 13.17 cr.

Jawan has done these numbers with only 55 per cent of the shows being opened so far and according to Sacnilk, the Atlee directorial could be targeting a whopping Rs 40 cr from advance bookings itself. Pathaan had clocked Rs 32 cr with the advance bookings, and registered an all-India opening of Rs 57 cr.

Jawan is likely to set new records at the box office, surpassing Pathaan’s opening day record of Rs 55 cr (Hindi) by a margin. According to trade estimates, the film is already setting the grounds to take an earth-shattering opening of Rs 60 crore plus–an unheard figure for any Indian film.

Jawan is not only rocking the pre-sales in the domestic market but is also setting records overseas. According to trade tracker Nishit Shaw, Jawan could be the first ever Bollywood film to register an opening of more than five million on a working Thursday (Sep 7), without any holiday benefit.

“Huge Growth in UK for #Jawan Advance Bookings. Post the Trailer, the film showed huge gains and currently has a pre-sales of £115K estimated gross. Will easily overtake #Pathaan’s Day 1 (£320K) to establish the biggest opening. Hard to believe it’s a midweek release!” Shaw tweeted.

In a Bollywood Hungama report, Kamal Gianchandani, President, MAI, CEO of PVR Pictures Ltd and Chief Business Planning & Strategy of PVR Ltd, said the advance numbers of Jawan are “excellent.”

“It’s currently tracking higher than Pathaan. I think it’s well poised for a humongous opening. The first day can be historic.” Shashank Raizada of Delite Cinemas, New Delhi told the portal that the numbers are “unprecedented” and after a long time, exhibitors are witnessing advance bookings of this kind. “The advance is higher than that of Gadar 2 and Pathaan. This is very good news for the industry,” he was quoted as saying.

Shah Rukh will be reportedly seen in a double role of a father and son in Jawan, which marks the first collaboration between him and Atlee, known for Tamil hits with Vijay like Theri, Mersal and Bigil.

The film also features an ensemble led by Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra, Ridhi Dogra and Sunil Grover, among others. It also features Deepika Padukone in a cameo. Backed by Red Chillies Entertainment, Jawan has been written and directed by Atlee, with Hindi dialogues penned by Sumit Arora.
