Janhvi Kapoor has been in the movies for almost five years now, and while many of her fans have been kind while appreciating her work, Janhvi has said that she likes to be strict when it comes to evaluating her own performances. In a recent chat, Janhvi said that a big reason for why she seeks external validation is because she never got a chance to know what her late mother Sridevi thought about her acting skills.
Sridevi passed away a few months before Janhvi made her silver screen debut with Dhadak, but the veteran actor did get a chance to see her daughter on set. In a chat with Galatta Plus, Janhvi recalled that Sridevi was present for her first shot, and that was what made her the “most nervous” on her first day. “She was there for my first shot. I think I was the most nervous about her being around so she hid behind a tree with Manish (Malhotra) to see my first shot. She told me she wasn’t there but I found out later that she was. I was very nervous about her opinion,” she recalled.
Janhvi’s debut film Dhadak was released in July 2018, and Sridevi passed away n February 2018.
Janhvi then shared that after the release of her latest film Bawaal, she got a call from one of Sridevi’s friends, who was working with her on a book before she passed away. Janhvi said that this friend shared what Sridevi had said about Janhvi’s acting when she watched her on the Dhadak set. She shared, “I recently found out what she said after my first day of the shoot, and this means so much to me because my biggest thing in life, and one of the reasons why I seek external validation so much, is that I never really got to know what she would think of my work and she had spoken to a friend.”
She added, “He spoke to her after she finished seeing my shoot and she said – she has it in her, she has it in her to do really, really well. I’m very proud. I never knew that she said that.” Janhvi said that she learnt this new information about her mother’s opinion a week ago, and it reinstated her confidence, especially since Bawaal was surrounded in controversy.
Janhvi is presently looking forward to the release of Mr and Mrs Mahi, Ulajh and Devara.
