Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff was in a long relationship with Ayesha Shroff before marrying her on June 5, 1987, which also happens to be her birthday. But Ayesha’s mother was not too supportive of their relationship due to Jackie’s public image as ‘Jaggu dada’ and she had even heard bad things about him from acquaintances. Today, looking back at the time, the Hero actor believes even he would not have allowed Ayesha to marry him had he been in her mother’s place.
Recently, Jackie said that to get married, love is not enough, but a man should also be able to take responsibility for the woman. “Ayesha ki maa agar main hota toh main bhi shaadi nahi karvata mere saath (If I had been Ayesha’s mother, even I would not let her marry me). First, do some work, and have the power to take care of your wife, your children, medical emergencies, rent. You should have enough money before you decide to marry,” the actor told Zoom Entertainment.
He added, “People are like they want to get married, there is love. But, at least, first, think about what is going to happen after marriage. You have to take care of her. So, her mother was right.”
In an earlier interview with Zoom Entertainment, Ayesha Shroff had shared, “When I started dating my husband, my mother had completely banned it because he was like ‘Jaggu dada’. And then of course there are people who fill your ears and say ‘he is such a bad boy.’ So I used to sneak out and meet him. And finally, one day, I just told my mother, ‘You know mom, he may not be the richest guy in the world, but he is the best hearted guy and he will keep me happy.’ And she said, ‘How are you going to live there,’ because at that time we were living in Teen Batti Chawl.”
However, over the 36 years of their marriage, Jackie Shroff ensured that he did not let Ayesha’s trust in him die. “Ayesha trusted me and I did what I could,” the Ram Lakhan actor said.
Jackie and Ayesha are parents to son Tiger Shroff and daughter Krishna Shroff.
