The much-awaited digital debut of Kareena Kapoor Khan is here. The actor is set to play the lead role in Sujoy Ghosh’s Jaane Jaan which is an adaptation of the book Devotion of Suspect X. Not many know that the two male leads in the film, Vijay Varma and Jaideep Ahlawat, are FTII classmates, and have had a long association.

At the trailer launch of the event, the two actors spoke about their mutual love and respect, and how working together thus became easier for them. Vijay also spoke about playing a ‘good man’ after leaving audiences ‘traumatised’ with his characters in Darlings and Dahaad. “I am very glad that this has happened in my life at this stage, that work is coming out and it is connecting with people. I find it damn flattering that they call it the year of Vijay Varma. I now hope the Chinese calendar also has a Vijay Varma year,” the actor said.

Talking about Jaane Jaan, he added that the dynamics between the three characters is something that people have never seen before, and hence it’s going to be something fresh for them. He then surprised everyone by revealing how he has known Jaideep Ahlawat for years, as they were in the same batch in film school.

“I have a long and loving relationship.. a friendship with Jaideep. We go back a long way back…to FTII. We were in the same class. So as soon as I knew Jaideep was there, and Kareena was there, I was like.. I am sold. I was super excited also about working with my old friend, Sujoy Ghosh, who is also thoroughly entertaining. And then we had the goddess herself,” Vijay gestured towards Kareena Kapoor, while sharing his reasons for taking up the project.

Mini Mathur, who was hosting the event, further asked if there was any kind of competition between them or they prepared together. Jaideep Ahlawat shared how given they understand each other’s process, it made work effortless.

“As soon as I got to know it’s Vijay, it became so much easier for me as I did not have to prepare much for the part, to build that relationship. We have known each other for 17 years, have been in the same class, worked together and faced teachers’ abuses together. We have gone through the process and grown together. So the moment you have a co-star that you have known for years and they will get you and your mannerisms, you are relieved,” the Paatal Lok actor said in Hindi.

When asked if they will be the new Jai-Veeru of the Hindi film industry, Vijay Varma laughed to say, “We are already Jai-Vijay. That is already there.”

On the other hand, Kareena Kapoor Khan spoke about being terrified about working with Vijay Varma and Jaideep Ahlawat. As she shared how having them as co-stars made her prepare well before coming on the set, Bebo, in her inimitable style, looked at the two men and said, “Kuch accha bolo. Mere baare mein bhi bolo (Say something about me, something nice).”

Jaideep got the cue right as he instantly said, “Jitni bhi tayari kar lo, jab kareena ke aankhon mein dekh ke dialogue bolna hai toh camera bhi hilta hai, aadmi toh chhodo. Bado bado ko kaanpte dekhe hai (As much as you prepare, when you have to look into Kareena’s eyes and say your dialogues, leave humans, even the camera shakes with fear).”

Vijay Varma, on the other hand, quipped that he would only like to thank Saif Ali Khan, because if it wasn’t for him, Kareena wouldn’t have known him. “She would have been like kaun hai yeh ladka”, he said.
