Rakesh Roshan has given larger-than-life films like Koi Mil Gaya, Krrish and more to the Hindi film industry, but the filmmaker and producer has also built a massive resort-style bungalow in Khandala. Recently, he gave a tour of his mansion, which is reported to be worth Rs 120 crore, on Farah Khan’s YouTube channel. “I was born in a garage, so I always wanted to make a big house,” he said in the video. Here’s a look inside Rakesh Roshan’s Khandala mansion:
In the drone-shot view of the house, spread across 22,400 sq. ft. on a five-acre plot, one can see that it is perched on a hilltop surrounded by lush green forests. Its location makes it a perfect family vacation escapade, offering expansive views of the Rajmachi Hills. The vacation home has been designed by architect Grigoria Oikonomou from Sibha Grigoria Private Limited, according to a 2021 report by Elle Decor India. Painted in pristine white, the mansion also boasts a massive, lush garden. Looking at the house, Farah even called it a personal resort and a stadium.
The main entrance of the house opens up to a huge swimming pool. Farah Khan was shocked and surprised to see its size, quipping, “Olympics race is organised here.” The swimming pool is surrounded by a lush private garden, making it the perfect getaway from the fast-paced life of Mumbai.
As she entered the house, one could see various sitting areas inspired by elements of nature. Chairs have been crafted from tree trunks, while a cozy corner has been created using boats converted into seats, all set around the pool. The house also features a massive garage to accommodate the family’s collection of luxury cars.
The mansion comes with multiple living rooms and a television space. As Farah entered, she spotted her crew members sitting with Rakesh Roshan and his wife Pinky Roshan in an open dining area adorned with chandeliers and wall paintings.
Other living spaces open to large balconies with patio furniture. The balcony tiles and expansive glass walls add an infinite feel to the house. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows throughout the property offer a breathtaking view of the ghats of Maharashtra.
The central staircase near the main entrance is decorated with stunning ceiling lights, making it look like the set of a grand film. The house also showcases artifacts and paintings collected by Rakesh and Pinky Roshan from across India. “Everything is Indian in this house,” he says in the clip.
Being the Roshan household, the mansion naturally includes a plush theatre room, fitted with premium recliner chairs. The house has every possible amenity one can imagine, ensuring no need to step out of the estate. “We have steam room, we have the gym here, we have sauna and massage room, basketball court,” Rakesh tells Farah in the video.
The rooms in the Khandala mansion are vast, but what caught Farah Khan’s eye was the size of the bathrooms. “Ye kisika bedroom hai actually. In Bombay bedrooms are smaller than this,” she remarked on entering one of them.
Rakesh revealed that he made sure every bathroom and powder room was designed differently to give each space its own unique character. Similarly, each bedroom is decorated distinctively and furnished with cozy beds, complemented by floor-to-ceiling windows that open to the tropical paradise surrounding the mansion.
