Imtiaz Ali received great reviews for his latest directorial Amar Singh Chamkila, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in the lead roles. While everyone said that Imtiaz had come back in a big way with the Netflix film, the director recently shared in an interview that AR Rahman had a rather interesting take on people saying Imtiaz had made a comeback.
In an interview with Galatta, he said, “I had an interesting conversation with Rahman sir. He called me soon after the release of Chamkila and he said that everyone was saying I am back. So where were you? He said people can be cruel. He wanted to prepare me to not feel bad when people say you are back because it also demeans what you have done before this.”
Imtiaz added, “He also told me that every 2-3 years, people will tell you that you are finished. After every 3-4 years, people have told him that ‘unme woh Roja wala baat nahi hai.’ He said you have to be strong and one way to be that is to have your own analysis, and not let the work you have done be corrupted either by success or failure. Rahman sir taught me that people will have their opinions. Also when you get so much praise, how do you deal with it? While you listen to other people’s opinions, you should have your opinion also about your work.”
Earlier in a few interviews, Imtiaz Ali had shared how AR Rahman contributed to Amar Singh Chamkila’s making by giving few very interesting ideas.
