Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui today (Janaury 29) claimed his innocence in the alleged assault case involving him and a woman in his apartment over parking space.
The Versova police had registered an FIR against Siddiqui after the woman residing in the same housing society as the actor, approached them alleging that the actor had pushed her and behaved inappropriately following a dispute over parking space. The actor was charged under section 354 of the IPC that deals with assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty.
Nawazuddin said that he was being framed because he was an easy target. “I am easy target so I was being framed and targeted. I have never seen this girl Heena before in my life. I don’t know where she is and I am also searching for her,” he said.
When IndainExpress.com asked Nawaz if he felt the entire incident was orchestrated by the complainant for publicity stunt, the actor said, “Yes, this could be a publicity stunt drama. They may have thought that if they target me they may come in news faster.”
Nawaz said he would never raise his hand against a woman. The actor said that he would fight the case towards its logical end and seek justice to prove his innocence and ruled out any backdoor settlement for the moment.
The actor also said that the industry had lent its support towards him during this phase. “Industry has been supportive. All I would say is support me only if I am innocent. I will not seek support if I am not on the side of the truth.”
Nawazuddin also said that the incident has made him cautious and stressed that because of the prevailing atmosphere he had to recruit bodyguards for his own personal safety.
