2024 has been a year of re-releases all across the country with filmmakers banking on nostalgia to bring audience to theatres in droves. The latest film to join this hugely successful bandwagon is Rakesh Roshan’s Karan Arjun. The 1995 film hit the screens again on Friday, and has been running to packed houses. Many audience members have been sharing their memories of watching the Shah Rukh Khan-Salman Khan film for the first time. Even Rakesh has been giving interviews left, right, and centre, and indulging the audience on their ride back memory lane. Now, actor Hrithik Roshan, who was an assistant director to his father on the 90s blockbuster, shared a heartfelt note about his experiences.
Sharing photos of him rubbing shoulders with Salman and Shah Rukh, Hrithik referenced War, and said, “I look like a young Kabir with Karan and Arjun.” He went on to add, “As an assistant, I remember Minerva being the main theatre on release day. Me and dad’s other assistant Anurag ( 2nd pic in the white sweatshirt), screened the print before the release and we were all incredibly disappointed . The print looked dark and dull. We got the the entire screen washed and as the dirt and grime dissolved into the large washcloth, we heard the manager say “The screen was washed for the first time in 25 years).’”
After this particularly humbling memory about giving it his all to ensure Karan Arjun looked the best for the audience, Hrithik also spoke about how he had to pull off a daredevil stunt to ensure things went smoothly during the shoot of the Karan Arjun song “Bhangda Paale”. “During the shoot, a more than merry team of Shahrukh and Salman decided to leave Sariska by car and drive to Delhi promising to be back by morning. I was flabbergasted and jumped (literally) on the bonnet of the car to stop them. The call time was 6am and I had to make sure my dad didn’t lose the day. He didn’t,” he wrote. Signing off the note by singing praises for the iconic leads of Karan Arjun, Hrithik said, “Watching Salman and Shahrukh act was a huge learning for me as a 17yr old. Best on set practical acting school ever. KARAN ARJUN is running in theatres again.”
