Singer-rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh has had quite a controversial past. In the last few years, Honey made headlines for all the wrong reasons, especially for substance abuse. While in a podcast last year Honey Singh had mentioned going to rehab and even getting out of Satan worship, now the singer has denied the claims of being in a rehab. During a conversation with Lallantop, Honey addressed his issues with drug addiction and how it affected his family. He also spoke about almost leaving his wife Shalini Talwar due to this.
He said that rumors about him going to a rehab center are the most absurd claims he has heard about himself. When asked how he got introduced to substance abuse, Honey Singh said many influential people pushed him towards it. “Few names, few very big and influential names. They had teased me. I was so badly addicted to these substances that I was always high. Most of the time, I was unaware of myself and my surroundings,” he said.
Adding further, Honey also shared, “I emphasized that I never required rehabilitation to overcome my addictions. I had quit liquor, hashish, and other substances, informing my family about the mental health issues that demanded immediate attention and treatment. My family warned me about potential legal repercussions from international law firms due to my demanding schedule. Still, I prioritized my health and refused to work until I received proper care. The recovery process took seven long years.”
Further Honey also spoke about how his former wife Shalini reacted to his drug abuse. He said, “Our relationship wasn’t very good at that time. There was a distance between us because I was travelling a lot. Things were good for the initial 9–10 months of our marriage. But then success and fame got to my head. When that happened, I neglected my family and completely lost myself in money, fame, addiction, and women. I did terrible things. I almost left Shalini and forgot about the family.”
He also said that reports of his fallout with Shah Rukh Khan during his tour were another weird rumor. Honey Singh also went on the share, “During a tour with Shah Rukh Khan in America, I returned with severe symptoms. Despite being involved in my show, ‘India’s Raw Star,’ in Mumbai, I remember breaking down during a taping and leaving abruptly. I retreated to my home in Noida for a while.”
With struggles of his own, Honey Singh did manage to get his life back on track. Now he is promoting his latest music album called Glory. Netflix is also coming up with a documentary on his life.
