If the script demands, an actor will perform. Veteran actor Hema Malini says she would have no qualms to do a kissing scene if the sequence fits well within the framework of a film. Her remarks come almost a month after her actor husband Dharmendra did a kissing scene in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
The Karan Johar directorial released in July and among a lot of things the romantic family comedy drama was praised for, it was also lauded for showing intimacy between two older characters. Dharmendra’s kissing scene with actor Shabana Azmi became the film’s one of the most talked about sequences.
In an interview with India.com, Hemal Malini was asked if she had seen Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, to which the veteran replied,”I haven’t seen the film yet”. On being asked if was offered a similar role with a kissing scene, would she take it up, Hema Malini said, “Kyun nahi karenge, bilkul karenge. (Why not, why won’t I do it, I will take it up). If it is nice if it is relatable and gels with the film, maybe I can.”
Earlier, Dharmendra had opened up about the kissing scene and said he had received a lot of messages from his fans about the particular sequence and joked, “Maine bola, ‘Yaar, yeh toh mere daaye haath ka kaam hai (I can do this in my sleep) Baaye haath se karwana hai, woh bhi karwa lo.”
Even Karan Johar had commented on the scene and told Film Companion that there was “no debate, no question” about it. “Dharam ji was like, ‘haan theek hai karna hai, fine’. (It was) two great veterans, performing with absolute aplomb, no questions asked. It was glorious to see them.” Starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani opened to widespread acclaim and has now emerged as a box office success.
