On her 75th birthday, veteran actor Hema Malini took a moment to reflect on her remarkable life. The actor shared her most cherished memories, and it’s no surprise that she pointed to the peak of her career, a period when she was engrossed in a series of back-to-back projects, as the best phase of her life. Hema also shared details of her birthday plans with husband and actor Dharmendra.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Hema shared that the most beautiful phase of her life was during her prolific career in the film industry. She said, “The most beautiful one was when I was very busy working in films. From 1975 to 1985, I don’t think I rested even one day. I was continuously working, like it was Sholay one day, then going to Afghanistan for Dharmatma, then going to Russia, within two months coming back to shoot in Nasik. I played so many different kind of roles, in my personal life too. That was a great time, and what is paying me back today.”
She delivered several hit films with Dharmendra, including the iconic Sholay, Raja Jani, Baghavat, and more. In the same interview, Hema revealed that Dharmendra, who was vacationing in the US, returned to Mumbai to celebrate her birthday. She expressed, “He is here for my birthday, and the biggest gift he gives me is spending time with us.”
Talking about her age, she added, “I am 75 today, I can’t believe it myself! But age is just a number. It depends on how you look after yourself, if others are inspired by the work you do. That’s life. I do the work that I get, spend time with my children and grandchildren. Life is beautiful,”
Hema and Dharmendra tied the knot in 1980. At the time, Dharmendra was already married to Prakash Kaur, with whom he had four children — sons Sunny and Bobby, and daughters Ajeeta and Vijeta. With Hema, he welcomed two daughters, Esha and Ahana.
